Summer is fast approaching and I need to make a few announcements about upcoming events and activities!
1) World Wide Knit Out in Public for us will be June 18th in the Courtyard from 11:00am to 3:00pm!
2) The next KAL – Knit-a-long is being created by Jess! They are socks, in a pretty slip stitch pattern that looks like quilting. These socks could be knit in either solids, semi-solids or variegated yarns. The KAL will start June 15th! Look for more information at a later date in our Ravelry Forum.
3) Summer Painting Class – The first class – yarn and technique – start the project – will be Thursday July 7th. The class starts at 10:00am and runs until 4:00pm. The second class – painting and finishing details – will be Thursday Aug 25th. The class starts at 10:00am and runs until 4:00pm.
The project for the painting class will be an A-line shift. Knit in a fine wool Fleece Artist BFL Fine, this tunic will be knit in two pieces. Back and Front will be identical, lace will edge the tunic and run in a center panel up the shift. Beading is always an option. No sample as yet – just a sketch. There will be 7 weeks between the classes for knitting.
4) Summer Series Classes – these will be one shot classes – held on Thursdays – Every class will be an all day event from 10:00am to 4:00pm, held in the courtyard in fair weather and upstairs in poor weather.
Each class topic and date will be announced 3 weeks before the class date. There will be 3 classes; one held in July; one in August and one in September! Look for the announcements in the blog and on facebook.
New Yarns and Notions
What would a blog posting be without some new yarns to drool over! How about some silks, patterning sock yarns and “Sexy” new needles.
We have just added some Vijay Fiber Silks to our line-up. These silks are milled in India and are simply gorgeous.
We brought in a selection of fingering in the Muga silk, Cadence – this is a semi-solid dyed “wild silk” that is quite scrumptious – to me it feels like a good velvet. We also brought a Mulberry silk fingering that is hand-dyed in variegated colourways. This one is called Serenade.
Right now we have lots of patterning Opal Sock, Sweet and Spicy II and a new Cotton/nylon blend Patterning Sock by Lang called Missoni.
These are Jess’s favourite “new” “Sexy” sock needles! ChiaoGoo steel dpn’s. Just arrived and looking mighty sharp!
Happy Summer Knitting
