We are really experiencing the February blahs right now! An unexpected blanket of snow, covering all of the bulbs that were starting to bloom – grey skys and extreme cold combine to keep us housebound. Definitely, this February has not been fun!
I’ve been looking at lots of colours lately, in the store we are always surronded by colour. But I’ve been fixated on the sock yarns and the many possibilitities that they offer. I’ve started 2 new pairs of socks and I have been perusing some gorgeous sock books – all featuring colourwork or intricate textures and all celebrating colour.
Cookie A’s new book Knit.Sock.Love celebrates innovative texture, Janel Laidman, in her books Enchanted Sole and Eclectic Sole creates socks with both colour, beads and texture. There is another new book Around the World in Knitted Socks, by Stephanie van der Linden that came out last fall that is also full of great sock patterns. Why socks now – they are a quick shot of colour, easy to carry around and offer lots of possibilities for creativity!
Not into socks, check out Maureens’ new scarf, from the cover of Rowan 48 and knit with lots of her left-over sock yarn!
Sock yarn can be used to knit fabulous lace shawls or scarves as well as beautiful sweaters.
Lynn came into the store last week, she had been at the retreat and wanted to show off her finished sampler. I’ve also finished the Maderia and Diamond Shawl – knit with Sweet Georgia’s CashSilk Lace (colourway Expresso), it feels like heaven and drapes beautifully.
