I must have mittens on the brain! Just before Christmas I was knitting up a storm of mittens – OK, they were mostly baby mittens – but they were still mittens! And here I am still knitting mittens, this time for the Mad About Ewe February Retreat!
Have you noticed in your newsfeed that pictures of mittens are cropping up everywhere?! Thummed mittens, embroidered mittens, fingerless mittens, basic mittens, baby mittens, buff mittens, cabled mittens and twined mittens; have I missed any? There are so many styles of mittens out there, lets make our next KAL a Mitten KAL!
Any style of mitten – you choose! These could be your first mitten or your umpteenth! Please join us in our Mitten KAL. Create new mittens for you or some for next years Christmas Gifts. There are always hands in need of mittens, artists, photographers, children and adults! Lets see how many pairs of mittens we can knit.
Rules are Easy
Must be a mitten – no fingers – therefore no gloves! Could be a fingerless mitten though!
Can be knit or crocheted; can be bulky, can be fine, can be plain, can be cabled, can be fair-isle, can be lace, can be beaded – you choose!
To win a prize (there will be prizes – they will be announced at a later date!), you must post a picture of your finished mittens – a pair mind you – no singles allowed (opps, I added a rule!) – posted in the thread provided on our Ravelry Board.
Start Date: Feb 4th, 2016
End Date: March 11th, 2016
Don’t have a pattern? We have quite a few at Mad About Ewe and there are many more, free and purchasable on Ravelry.
Every year Mad About Ewe hosts a retreat for a group of knitters who love to get together to play and learn. This year the project is mittens, double layered mittens; knit in the round with a solid inside layer and a contrasting lace outer layer. The Retreat is at Kiwi Cove Lodge, just outside Ladysmith, B.C.. We take over the whole building and knit and play for the whole weekend. The dates are Friday February 19, Saturday February 20 and Sunday February 21.
We start on Friday evening and run until Sunday afternoon. Our masseuse, Julie, brings out her chair and sets up space upstairs and she is available all weekend. There is a signup sheet in the main room – her hands are pure heaven.
Right now we are looking for a couple of local knitters who may be looking for a new project and looking to meet like minded knitters in a convivial atmosphere. Unfortunately this opportunity is only open to local knitters who can drive back and forth as all the rooms at the Inn are full! We will provide you with a materials list ahead of time, needles and notions only, as we provide the yarn and pattern. On Saturday there will be a “Show and Tell” so bring your favourite finished items and share with the group – this in entirely voluntary – but we are all inspired by the work that others do and would love to see your work!
The cost of the Retreat, includes, materials, pattern, door prizes, snacks, Friday evening, snacks, lunch and dinner on Saturday, snacks and lunch on Sunday. Please contact Mad About Ewe if you wish more information.
We hope to “see” at the KAL on Ravelry! Or meet and greet you at the Retreat this Month!
